Windows 11 Update KB5094126 Freezes Systems, Forces BitLocker

The June 2026 Patch Tuesday cumulative update for Windows 11, KB5094126 (OS Builds 26200.8655 and 26100.8655), is generating widespread reports of system instability. Following its installation, users across community forums and enterprise environments are experiencing critical issues. These problems include system freezes, forced BitLocker recovery loops, broken OneDrive Explorer integration, and disrupted local area network (LAN) access.

Released on June 9, 2026, KB5094126 is Microsoft’s monthly cumulative security update for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2.

It delivers critical security patches from the June 2026 bulletin, along with quality improvements including Bluetooth LE Audio support, Windows Hello authentication enhancements, and a fix for virtualization-related Stop errors (HYPERVISOR_ERROR 0x20001) that had plagued gaming and VM workloads in previous builds. Despite its stated purpose, the update has introduced multiple sets of issues across multiple user environments.

Multiple users on Microsoft’s Q&A forums report that after installing KB5094126, Windows 11 systems freeze completely within minutes of booting, some within as little as five minutes. In one documented case, a user noted that the system freezes too quickly to perform a standard uninstall through Settings, forcing recovery via the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).

Recovery mode itself caused additional breakage in at least one case, reportedly altering the Windows edition label and removing the taskbar clock, ultimately requiring a full OS reinstall.

Among the most severe reported issues is the update forcing devices into BitLocker Recovery mode on reboot, even on machines where BitLocker and Device Encryption had been explicitly disabled.

Corporate deployments using standard local accounts (without Microsoft Account linking) are particularly vulnerable, as there is no mechanism for automatic recovery key backup in these configurations.

Affected users report that Microsoft’s own AI-assisted support tool confirmed that without a saved BitLocker recovery key, the only resolution is a full OS wipe and reinstall, effectively rendering devices inoperable and causing direct business downtime.

KB5094126 also breaks OneDrive folder browsing within Windows File Explorer on domain-joined PCs. The OneDrive shortcut appears in the File Explorer sidebar but returns blank results when clicked.

Workarounds include accessing OneDrive via the system tray icon or temporarily moving the device to an OU that blocks Group Policy — neither of which is viable for non-technical end users.

The root cause appears to be tied to disabled UAC (User Account Control) combined with local administrator privileges, which disrupts OneDrive’s Explorer shell integration.

Beyond freezes and BitLocker, some users report that the update breaks local area network access entirely while leaving internet connectivity intact. Attempts to block the update using wushowhide.diagcab Or pausing updates in Settings has proven ineffective, with the update silently reinstalling itself overnight.

HP devices (including the 840 G10, 460 G11, and Engage One Pro 15.6 G2 AiO) face additional BSOD errors (0xc0430001) linked to EFI system partition (ESP) space constraints of 100MB vs. the recommended 500MB, conflicting with Secure Boot certificate updates bundled in this patch.

A registry-based mitigation exists: running reg add "HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlBfsvc" /v EspPaddingPercent /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f as Administrator and rebooting may allow the update to complete without triggering ESP failures.

For systems that can be reached before freezing, rolling back via WinRE → Troubleshoot → Uninstall Updates → Uninstall Latest Quality Update remains the primary recommended path.

Microsoft has not yet acknowledged these issues in its official KB5094126 documentation, creating a significant disconnect between official messaging and real-world user impact.
