The investment round was spearheaded by Album VC, with Karma Ventures joining as a new investor. Previous backers, including .406 Ventures, Atlantic Bridge, IQ Capital, and Lakestar, also participated in the funding. Mindgard intends to allocate these new resources toward scaling its product development, engineering, sales, and marketing departments to meet the escalating demands from its customer base.

Mindgard’s Offensive Security Approach to AI

Originating from Lancaster University, which Mindgard asserts hosts the world’s largest AI security laboratory, the company has successfully transitioned over a decade of specialized research into a robust commercial platform. At the core of its offerings is Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST) tailored for AI, an innovative framework that facilitates continuous and automated red-teaming.

Rather than relying on theoretical risk assessments, Mindgard’s platform actively probes AI models, agents, and applications. It employs real-world attack techniques to uncover vulnerabilities, embodying an offensive security mindset that is becoming indispensable for enterprises evaluating leading AI security solutions. This proactive approach aims to identify and validate security flaws before malicious actors can exploit them.

The platform’s continuous testing methodology builds upon advanced autonomous penetration testing techniques, designed to rigorously evaluate AI model behavior under various adversarial conditions. This offensive strategy has already yielded substantial security insights.

Tangible Security Discoveries

Mindgard’s proactive methodology has led to the identification and public disclosure of more than 150 high-impact security and safety vulnerabilities in widely deployed AI products. Each discovered flaw contributes directly to Mindgard’s proprietary threat intelligence knowledge base, which continuously enhances its offensive and defensive algorithms. As highlighted in Mindgard’s Series A Blog, this process of operationalizing researcher expertise transforms cutting-edge threat intelligence into an enterprise-ready defensive capability, crucial for organizations scaling AI agent security controls across production environments.

James Brear, CEO of Mindgard, emphasized the unique challenges posed by AI. “AI is creating an entirely new attack surface, and organizations need a fundamentally different approach to securing it,” Brear stated. “We don’t just automate attacks. We operationalize expertise, turning the knowledge of leading AI security researchers and offensive security practitioners into the capabilities every enterprise needs to secure their AI.”

The Series A funding follows a period of rapid adoption among Fortune 2000 enterprises and AI-native startups across diverse sectors, including financial services, pharmaceuticals, gaming, digital services, semiconductors, and healthcare. As organizations increasingly integrate AI from experimental pilots into core operational workflows, continuous vulnerability testing has emerged as a primary security requirement.

Ty Boswell, a partner at Album VC, described the investment as instrumental in defining a new cybersecurity category. “Organizations are moving AI into critical operations without security infrastructure designed for how these systems operate in practice,” Boswell noted. “Mindgard has translated deep research and elite offensive-security expertise into a continuously evolving capability that enables enterprises to stay ahead of emerging AI threats.”

With the global acceleration of AI adoption, Mindgard’s recent funding round underscores a significant shift in cybersecurity. AI security is no longer merely an add-on to traditional application security but a distinct discipline requiring specialized, attacker-driven tools and dedicated research.
