Microsoft has deployed an urgent out-of-band (OOB) update, designated KB5121767, for Windows 11 to rectify critical system performance and compatibility issues impacting a specific subset of Dell hardware. Issued on July 18, 2026, KB5121767 is relevant for Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2. Post-installation, affected systems will transition to OS Builds 26200.8894 and 26100.8894, respectively. As a cumulative update, it incorporates all prior security and non-security enhancements. Microsoft released this targeted package to provide a specific remedy for devices grappling with the Intel IPF driver anomaly.

Microsoft KB5121767 Out-of-Band Update

According to Microsoft, the underlying flaw could trigger unpredictable shifts in system performance, power consumption, and overall device behavior. On the impacted Dell machines, users might encounter difficulties with power management, battery charging, thermal regulation, USB-C peripherals, and general system responsiveness.

This issue primarily affected a limited number of Dell devices after the July 2026 security update, KB5101650. In response, Microsoft had temporarily paused the delivery of that update to these specific systems while it investigated the compatibility conflict. With the release of KB5121767, Microsoft has lifted this update block for the affected Dell devices. Systems previously impacted by the Intel IPF issue can now install this OOB package and subsequently receive the latest Windows servicing updates.

Intel Innovation Platform Framework drivers are crucial for Windows to orchestrate hardware-level power, thermal, and performance policies. The update also integrates servicing stack update KB5120102, which elevates the servicing stack to Build 26100.8872. Furthermore, KB5121767 updates Windows AI components to version 1.2605.856.0. These updated components encompass functionalities such as Image Search, Content Extraction, Semantic Analysis, and the Settings Model.

Users who have enabled the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” setting within Windows Update should receive the OOB update automatically. Others can initiate a manual installation by navigating to Settings, selecting Windows Update, and then clicking on Download & install.

Enterprise administrators can acquire KB5121767 via established business deployment channels, including Windows Server Update Services and the Microsoft Update Catalog. Organizations are advised to thoroughly test the update on affected Dell models before proceeding with a broader deployment.

Microsoft has not classified this issue as a security vulnerability or provided any indication of active exploitation.
