New Windows 11 Dev Build Improves Secure Boot Monitoring and

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.8170 to the Dev Channel. This update introduces notable improvements to Secure Boot visibility, storage management, and the Feedback Hub experience.

The most security-relevant update in this build is a revamped Secure Boot experience within the Windows Security app.

Navigating to Windows Security > Device Security > Secure Boot now displays color-coded icon badges green, yellow, and red alongside descriptive text that reflects the device’s current Secure Boot state and certificate status.

This update is directly tied to Microsoft’s ongoing rollout of updated Secure Boot certificates for consumer devices and select business PCs.

Users can now proactively verify whether their device’s certificate is current and in good standing, rather than waiting for a failure notification.

By default, this enhanced view is turned off on enterprise IT-managed devices and servers to avoid disruption in managed environments.

The change provides end users and security-conscious administrators with immediate, at-a-glance visibility into a critical firmware-level security control. This area has historically lacked transparency in the Windows interface.

Storage Improvements Address Performance and Usability

This build also delivers several meaningful storage-related changes. The most impactful is an increase in the FAT32 volume formatting size limit via the command line, raised from 32GB to 2TB.

This long-standing restriction has frustrated system administrators and power users for years.

Its removal significantly expands FAT32’s practical utility for large removable drives and cross-platform storage scenarios.

Additional storage improvements include:

• Faster navigation performance when viewing storage details on large volumes under Settings > System > Storage > Advanced Storage Settings > Disks & Volumes.
• A refined UAC prompt behavior on the Storage settings page: the prompt now appears only when accessing temporary files, rather than triggering immediately upon opening the page.

A bug causing Settings > Network & Internet > Data Usage to display abnormally large and unrealistic values in recent builds has been resolved in this release.

The Feedback Hub also received version 2.2604.101.0, incorporating user-driven design refinements.

Such as improved default window sizing with persistent session memory, mouse back-button navigation support, restored visibility of community feedback, and corrected upvote button rendering for users using the Chinese display language.

Build 26300.8170 is based on Windows 11, version 25H2 via an enablement package and is currently available to Dev Channel Insiders.

Many features in this build are deployed via Microsoft’s Controlled Feature Rollout, meaning not all Insiders will receive every update simultaneously.

Insiders can accelerate feature delivery by enabling the latest update toggle under Settings > Windows Update.
