Key Takeaways

  • Anthropic has launched Enterprise-managed authorization for its Claude Model Context Protocol (MCP) connectors.
  • The new feature centralizes access control for AI connectors through enterprise identity providers, eliminating individual user authorization steps.
  • This enhancement simplifies deployment and improves security posture for Claude integrations with workplace tools like Datadog, Notion, and Slack.
  • Okta is the initial supported identity provider, with broader support anticipated.

Anthropic Bolsters Claude Security with Centralized Enterprise Authentication

Anthropic has significantly advanced the security and manageability of its Claude AI platform, announcing on August 24, 2026, the general availability of enterprise-managed authorization for its Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector framework. This development marks a pivotal shift towards integrating AI tool access within existing enterprise identity governance structures.

  • Streamlined Connector Access and Expanded Integrations
  • Eliminating Manual Authorization for Enhanced Security
  • Deeper Administrative Control and Compliance
  • What You Should Do

Streamlined Connector Access and Expanded Integrations

The latest update extends support for enterprise-managed authorization to popular platforms such as Datadog, Notion, and Slack. These new additions join an already robust suite of integrations including Asana, Atlassian, Canva, Figma, Granola, Linear, and Supabase. Future plans indicate imminent support for Exa, Miro, and Zoom, further broadening Claude’s operational reach within enterprise ecosystems.

The feature addresses a critical impediment to enterprise-wide adoption of Claude’s connector capabilities. Previously, leveraging MCP connectors, which enable Claude to interact with an organization’s existing workplace applications, necessitated a two-step authorization process. While an administrator would initially enable a connector for the organization, each individual employee was then required to personally authorize it. This decentralized, repetitive authorization flow across potentially hundreds of users presented a significant security and operational challenge for IT and security teams.

Eliminating Manual Authorization for Enhanced Security

Enterprise-managed authorization resolves this operational friction by centralizing the process. Administrators now authorize a connector once, and employees automatically inherit access based on their existing roles and group memberships within the organization’s identity provider. This means that upon their first login to Claude, the relevant connectors are immediately available, bypassing any manual consent screens, separate OAuth flows, or additional credential management.

This capability represents the inaugural production deployment of the Enterprise-Managed Authorization extension to the MCP, an open standard designed to allow any connector, including custom in-house solutions, to adopt this streamlined behavior. Okta serves as the launch identity provider, with Anthropic planning to integrate additional providers in the near future. The underlying mechanism leverages Okta’s Cross App Access protocol and Identity Assertion JWT Authorization Grants, ensuring that it extends existing OAuth infrastructure rather than introducing an entirely new authentication surface for security teams to monitor.

Deeper Administrative Control and Compliance

Beyond mere convenience, integrating MCP access into existing identity provider workflows offers profound benefits for administrators. It enables access to be precisely scoped by group, centrally audited, and instantly revoked. This integration also allows administrators to safely shorten access token lifetimes, ensuring that connector access for deprovisioned employees expires quickly rather than lingering on stale tokens. Furthermore, administrators can enforce IdP-only authentication for connectors, preventing employees from inadvertently linking personal accounts to critical workplace tools.

This consistent access across Claude chat, Claude Code, and Cowork underscores Anthropic’s strategic vision of identity as a unified control plane across its entire product suite. Companies such as Ramp, Webflow, and HubSpot are already implementing enterprise-managed authentication across their teams, with Ramp reportedly provisioning approximately 2,000 employees without requiring any manual setup steps.

As sophisticated agentic AI tools increasingly interact with production systems and sensitive corporate data, this shift towards centralized, IdP-governed connector access highlights a broader industry acknowledgment. AI tooling must adhere to the same rigorous identity discipline that enterprises apply to all other SaaS applications, rather than operating as an ungoverned exception.

What You Should Do

  • Organizations utilizing Claude should evaluate enabling enterprise-managed authorization to enhance security and streamline access management for MCP connectors.
  • Leverage existing identity provider groups and roles to define and enforce granular access policies for Claude integrations.
  • Administrators should configure shorter access token lifetimes for connectors where possible, to minimize the window of unauthorized access post-deprovisioning.
  • Ensure that IdP-only authentication is enforced for sensitive connectors to prevent unauthorized personal account linkages.
  • Regularly audit connector access logs through your central identity provider to maintain oversight and compliance.
